Sunday Bee Day

So last week we made up a set of super frames for the hive. Supers are where the bees store there honey so we can later harvest it from them, the frames don't take long to make but it seems like a never ending process in the early summer to make sure there's enough. On Sunday, perhaps the hottest day of the year so far, we cracked open the hive and my girls are thriving.

The Queen is laying eggs are there are loads of little white larvae waiting to transform into little honey bees. They are bringing in tons of pollen (tons may be a slight exaggeration but you can see the amazing colours from the different flowers below) and are already making honey! Fingers crossed this year will be a good honey harvest. Last year we got around 100lbs of honey off the hive which is incredible and the best harvest we've had to date.
