Bee season is finally here! When we first looked in the bees at the beginning of the month we were happy that they had made it but with news of another bad batch of weather on the way we fed them to make sure they had enough food to keep going. This time of year we feed bees a sugar syrup, it is literally sugar and water and very very sticky!
They seem to have taken well to their new apiary. They seem very settled and there are lots of wild flowers around for them to take advantage of.

capped worker brood (baby girl bees) |
We've seen the queen and she is laying well. There was lots of capped brood (bee larvae) and even some drone cells. Drones are boy bees and this is a good sign that the season is well under way. They are starting to bring in nectar and pollen and I can't wait to start visiting them more regularly.
