Hive Visit

So today we visited the hive for an inspection and it was a great one. Not only are the girls doing really well we also spotted our most elusive queen!

As you can see the queen is longer and skinner than all the rest, there are also some larvae  you can spot in their cells

The bees are busy bringing in pollen and honey and here you can see the amazing colours of the pollen. This is the most beautiful pollen I've ever seen! it's possible to work out what flowers your bees have visited by looking at the different coloured pollen, it's harder than you think but you can get pollen charts to help but the colours will always look slightly different. It's likely the magenta is from deadnettles and the purple could be vipers bugloss or poppy.
You can see the brightly coloured pollen here among glistening honey

You can see the blue black pollen they are bringing back to the hive, most likely poppy
