Hive Visit

This weeks hive visit went well, the bad weather has meant they haven't capped all their honey but there is plenty of it! We feared they may have swarmed as we were told there had been clusters of bees on the outside but I saw the queen so she definately has stayed put. We added another super to give them some more space for them and their honey- fingers crossed it will be full soon!

The Hive now has two supers (the smaller boxes on top) these are for the honey. The bigger box at the bottom is known as the brood box and we add a super to give our queen more room- this is called a brood and a half. There is a smaller piece of wood that you can see between the brood and the supers- this is the queen excluder, this stops the queen going up and laying eggs in the honey

More pollen, still some amazing colours!
